PS Portal Cloud Streaming Beta
Just over a year ago, Sony introduced their first-ever remote play device, the PlayStation Portal remote player, aiming to bring a console-quality gaming experience to a handheld.
Sony have announced a new system software update for the PS Portal, rolling out from 19th November (with Europe getting the update from the 20th November). This update brings improvements to the audio experience, including:
- Speaker volume tweaks: The volume will now be quieter when set to the minimum level.
- Enhanced PlayStation Link controls: You’ll be able to adjust your PlayStation Link device settings directly from the PS Portal settings menu, letting you fine-tune the volume and sidetone volume for a better experience.
But here’s the big news – this update also includes a beta version of a highly requested feature: cloud streaming support for PS Portal. Once the update is live, PlayStation Plus Premium members can join the beta, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue directly to the PS Portal, even if they don’t own a PS5 console.
Since this is a beta for Cloud Streaming on PS Portal, it’s still a work in progress. Features might change as we refine the service, and the final version may look a bit different.
What to Expect in the Cloud Streaming (Beta)
Here’s a closer look at what you’ll get to try during the beta:
Features Available During the Beta
- Stream PS5 games: Over 120 PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue will be streamable on the PS Portal. Some highlights include Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
- 1080p/60fps streaming: Games will stream in up to 1080p at 60fps for a smooth gaming experience.
- DualSense features: Enjoy haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the touchpad (emulated on the PS Portal’s touchscreen), and motion controls, as well as speaker functionality.
- Cloud storage: Save data and game progress will sync automatically with your PS5 console, giving you up to 100GB of storage and seamless gameplay across devices.
